Moon guides Chiefs to victory over CT City

Ryan Moon of Kaizer Chiefs.

Ryan Moon’s second-half goal was enough to give Kaizer Chiefs a 1-0 victory against Cape Town City on Saturday, writes MARSHALL GOUTS.

The home side looked the more dominant of the two teams in the opening exchanges, with goalkeeper Sage Stephens pulling off a few fine saves.

Lyle Lakay almost broke the deadlock in fine fashion in the 13th minute ,but his long-range effort whistled past Itumeleng Khune’s goalframe.

The Citizens, again came close to opening the scoring in the 21st minute, but his powerful half-volley forced Khune into making a fine save.

Siphelele Ntshangase and Willard Katsande proved wasteful with their efforts towards the end of the first-half as the two sides went into the half-time break deadlocked at 0-0.

Chiefs took the lead soon after the break when Ryan Moon pounced on sloppy defending by the City defence to slot home his fourth league game in five games.

Benni McCarthy opted for his first change of the game when youngster Shane Roberts replaced midfielder Teko Modise.

Komphela responded with two changes of his own as Ntshangase made way for Siphiwe Tshabalala and Leonardo Castro came off for Bernard Parker.

Winger Sibusiso Masina should have levelled matters for the visitors in the 76rh minute, but goalkeeper Itu Khune came to his sides rescue with an excellent save.

Moon could have grabbed his brace in the first minute of stoppage time after another error at the back but Stephens made yet another fine save to deny the striker.
