Mosimane: It will go down to the wire

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane predicts that the current Absa Premiership season will be decided on the final day of the season, citing the unpredictable nature of the campaign.

Masandawana failed to take advantage of table-toppers Bidvest Wits’ 3-1 loss to Free State Stars, and subsequently failed to move to the summit of the table after their 2-2 draw against Baroka in their most recent league encounter.

Despite their three-point deficit, Mosimane is confident that things could change in the remaining two matches.

‘It’s not easy and it’s going to go to the wire,’ he told Times Live.

‘We have to keep going, at least we gained a point against Baroka FC. It’s the way it is and we have to accept it.

‘You’ll never know which game you will win. Against Platinum Stars, we dropped two points. Against Baroka we dropped two more and then we went to Orlando Pirates and won.

‘It’s not about the quality of the team; it is about what is happening on the day. We have Maritzburg United in our next match and I know that if we are fresher we can do something,’ he added.

The former Bafana Bafana mentor also revealed what went wrong in the stalemate against Bakgaga, who clawed their way back into the game after being two goals down.

‘To tell you the truth, they were stronger than us physically, sharper than us and a bit quicker than us, but I know why. We’ve played three games and they have not played since Bloemfontein Celtic.

‘We played Wits, a game that took a lot from our legs, against Platinum Stars, who were fighting at the bottom of the log, and Orlando Pirates.

‘I thought in terms of tactics we could have done something better, but we didn’t and they matched us.

‘A point was not good enough for us, but that is what we gained and it is the way it is,’ he concluded.
