Soweto Derby holds special memories – Mokwena

Mokwena on Soweto Derby

Rulani Mokwena says Orlando Pirates will go about their business as usual in preparation for the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs, but admits that he is privileged for him to be apart of the spectacle.

Under the guidance of Milutin Sredojevic and Mokwena, the Buccanneers have managed to turn their fortunes around and now find themselves in second-place, four points adrift of table-toppers, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Despite the magnitude of the clash, Mokwena admits that the Soweto Giants have not differed their preparations.

“Our preparation has been normal. We’ve looked at what we did previously, analyses our opponents & now putting together our tactical approach,” he said at a press-conference on Monday.

“We’ve put our guys through recovery, those that played yesterday, and the other guys who haven’t played also need to be physically ready so we are all working together on that.

“It’s a big game sure, but our preparation is not so different than any other game. We treat them all as importantly.

“The derby holds special memories especially growing up close to Orlando Stadium.

“There’s always an energy about this game so being part of it even closer is a massive privilege,” he concluded.
