The Clever Boys got off to a bright start and nearly broke the deadlock in the fourth minute when Lehlohonolo Majoro forced Riyaad Pieterse into making a fine save, before hitting the woodwork with his rebounded effort.

However, Wits went on to take the lead in the 16th minute after Thulani Hlatshwayo played a ball to Bongani Khumalo, who found the back of the net with his strike from inside the area to make it 1-0.

The home side then doubled their lead three minutes later when Hlatshwayo headed the ball down to Jame Keene before the striker fired his effort through the legs of Pieterse from a tight angle, 2-0.

Gavin Hunt’s side almost added a third in the 27th minute after Hlatshwayo directed his cross toward Khumalo, but the defender was ultimately denied by the SuperSport goalkeeper.

Eric Tinkler opted to make a change at the start of the second half when he introduced Kingston Nkhatha to replace Teboho Mokoena in attack.

SuperSport were finding it hard to break down the Wits defence and opted to use their remaining substitutes when they brought on Sipho Mbule and Thabo Mnyamane in place of Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Jeremy Brockie.

Matsatsantsa nearly found the back of the net in the 77th minute after Thuso Phala capitalised on a poor touch from Sifiso Hlanti, but the striker was unable to steer his effort towards the target.

However, Bidvest Wits held on to their two-goal lead over SuperSport United until the final whistle as they claim all three points and move off the bottom of the Absa Premiership standings.
