Gordinho: What disappointed Komphela most
- Updated: May 12, 2017

Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho revealed what coach Steve Komphela told them after their failure to clinch the Absa Premiership title.
The Soweto giants were firmly part of the title-race after having embarked on a 12-game consecutive unbeaten streak in the league, but their title charge hit a snag after conceding three draws to Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Golden Arrows respectively.
The 22-year-old defender said that Komphela was most aggrieved with the team’s inability to put the games beyond doubt in addition to conceding last-minute goals, which was seen in the draws to City and SuperSport.
‘Obviously, the coach wasn’t happy about conceding these goals,’ Gordinho told reporters at Naturena.
‘He wasn’t himself, and he was trying hard. He pointed out to us that we need to be more ruthless as a team, and that we need to kill games off when we get the chances. Also that we need to defend stronger.
“He also said that it’s a mental thing. We are not lacking fitness and we are not lacking tactical discipline. Technically, we have the best players in the league. It’s just about the mental aspect of the game and making the right decisions,” he said.
Furthermore, Gordinho said he was pleased with his overall performance this season, suggesting that this has been a season of growth for him.
“It’s been a good season for me. I have played most of the games. It’s been good… it’s been nice to know that I have become more regular in that position and I’m doing well for the team, and I’m just looking forward to next season to continue where I left off,” concluded Gordinho.
