Log-leaders Bidvest Wits suffered a 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs, but coach Gavin Hunt was not pleased with the way referee Victor Gomes handled the clash.

Goals by Hendrick Ekstein and Leonardo Castro saw the Amakhosi dent the Clever Boys’ title aspirations at the Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Tempers flared in the clash between the two heavyweights as Gomes sent off Wits defender Robyn Johannes for a cynical foul in the closing stages of the encounter.

At full time, the Wits players furiously surrounded Gomes demanding answers, with Hunt subsequently pulling his players away from the action.

The four-time league winning coach refused to comment on the referee in fear of being charged by the PSL, however it was clear that Hunt suggested that Gomes favoured the away team.

‘There’s not really much to say. I don’t want to say too much. It’s very disappointing the way the situation was handled,’ Hunt told Supersport TV.

‘It is what it is. We knew when we came to the game what it was going to be like, what it was going to entail.

‘So, there’s not really much to say. I don’t really want to say too much. I don’t want to talk about anything because I might just say something I shouldn’t say,’ he concluded.
