Kaizer Chiefs starlet Wiseman Meyiwa has pleaded for first-team action ahead of the 2017-18 Absa Premiership campaign after his impressive exploits at the U20 World Cup.

The 17-year-old impressed while on duty with the U20 national team when he made two appearances during the U20 World Cup recently.

Meyiwa says he is looking forward to earning himself a place in the Amakhosi first team, after impressing coach Steve Komphela.

“The only thing missing now, is to play for the first team. That’s what is missing in my career. Having trained with the first team‚ I saw that I am ready. It’s not as difficult as I thought it would be,” Meyiwa told The Sowetan.

“I just need to work hard and be strong mentally to survive there. The coach (Steve Komphela) applauded me for going to the World Cup.

“He told me to work hard in the World Cup because when I come back I will play. Those words motivated me to do well.”

The U20 midfielder insists that he will make the most of his opportunities if given the chance to don the Amakhosi jersey, in the hopes of repaying Komphela for the faith he showed in the young midfielder.

“I was given a chance. If you are given a chance‚ you must make the most of it,” he added.

“That’s all I ask for‚ a chance. I will do the rest. I know that if given a chance‚ I will make the most of it and prove that I belong here.

“Playing for Chiefs’ first team would make me so happy because I will be playing for a team that I grew up supporting.”
