• Mkhize named as CT City’s best player

    Cape Town City captain Thamsanqa Mkhize was named both the club’s Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year at their annual awards evening on Monday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

    The 30-year-old played every game this campaign except five of for the Citizens matches, while finding the back of the net on three occasions and creating a further three across all competitions.

    The KwaZulu-Natal-born right back also captained the Citizens to a fourth place finish in the Absa Premiership and lead the team to glory in the MTN8 tournament at the start of the 2018-19 campaign.

    ‘I have learned that to be trusted of been a Captain comes with responsibility. And I grateful to the fellow teammates, supporters even when we are not doing well they always been with us,’ Mkhize said.

    Meanwhile, Gift Links walked away with the Most Improved Player of the Season award and was recenty nominated for the Absa Premiership’s Young Player of the Season award, which will be announced in Durban next Sunday.

    The Citizens’ Rookie of the Season award went to midfielder Zukile Kewuti, who showed his quality in midfield as he came into the squad to replace the injured Thabo Nodada and Roland Putsche respectively.
