• Mosimane targets Caf CL over league title

Pitso Mosimane, coach of Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has claimed that his side will be focusing on the Caf Champions League over the Absa Premiership with Wayne Arendse’s case still threatening to derail their title charge.

Sundowns and defender Arendse will face a disiciplinary committee where a points deduction is thought to be the likely outcome in the coming weeks and with the Brazilians missing a number of key players in Wednesday nights loss to SuperSport United Mosimane believes his side will struggle to compete on both fronts.

‘It [the gap] can become more wider [once] the prosecutor has decided how many points is giving to who. My opinion? Leave the league. I feel sorry for Masandawana. We have to give our best but if your best is not good enough,’ Mosimane told SuperSport after the game.

‘I think we let ourselves down in the first-half with a soft corner kick. We defended top corner kicks in the Champions League against big boys. I think that’s where the game was lost. And the second goal was just one mistake.

‘But yes we didn’t have the legs. We can take it as an excuse, but it’s the reality. We had a lot of players out, so we tried to bring in other guys. They were not up to the speed of the game and you can’t blame them.

‘Leave the league. My opinion,’ added the 54-year-old.

‘Credit to Supersport, they were fresher. We played against a well-rested team. But it’s not an excuse. We put ourselves in this position. So, the league let it go to the team that’s supposed to win it.

‘Let’s try the Champions League and put our energies on that. But you never know how football is. Sometimes the gods can change fortunes around and you still have a chance. But it’s okay, let the league go where it’s supposed to go.

‘Tomorrow we are leaving for Polokwane. We can’t travel on Friday, because it’s Easter Friday. We don’t want to be stuck on the road for six hours, so we are flying out tomorrow. But like I said, let the league go where it’s supposed to go.’
