Bidvest Wits midfielder Sifiso Myeni says he can ‘now walk tall’ donning the Wits jersey after he was he was considered surplus to requirement by Orlando Pirates back in 2016.

The 29-year-old joined the Students from Orlando Pirates at the beginning of the 2016-17 season after spending four seasons at the Buccaneers, where he netted 15 goals from 95 appearances.

In his first season as a Wits player, Myeni managed to rack up 24 appearances in all competition and creating three assists in the process, while helping them to their maiden Absa Premiership title.

Myeni admits that he was frustrated after being transfer listed by Ertugral, but insists he is now better off at Wits, having earned a PSL winners medal in his first season at the club.

“I was transfer listed at Pirates and that came as a shock. I did not know what would happen with my career, but look at me now,” Myeni told KickOff.com.

“In a way I was frustrated, but I would like to thank Jose Ferreira and coach Gavin Hunt because they brought me into a winning team. Winning this title means a lot. It will stay with me because we made history. Now I can walk tall.”

The former Moroka Swallows admits that he found it difficult to adapt life at Wits after missing pre-season last year, but he wants to hit the ground running and cement his place in the first team ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

“When we started the team was doing well and obviously I could not play. The coach tried to fit me in. It’s difficult to come in a team that had a pre-season and you did not have pre-season,” he added.

“Now I am starting pre-season with the team. My priority is to get into the starting line-up and play more games than last season.”
