New Chiefs man unfazed by competition

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Bhongolethu Jayiya says he is not worried about the competition in the squad and prefers to focus on helping the team to reclaim their glory days.
Jayiya became Chiefs’ third and latest signing during the transfer window after the Soweto giants snapped him up days after he parted ways with his former club, Cape Town City.
The 27-year-old revealed that he is ready to make the step-up in his career as he looks to bring an end to Amakhosi’s two consecutive trophyless seasons.
”Everybody should be up for the challenge,” he told goal.
”At the end of the day, a big team doesn’t win anything these days because the competition in the Premier Soccer League is tough.
”So, we just have to work hard to bring back the glory days,” he added.
The Bidvest Wits youth development product burst on to the scene in 2001, netting a brace in a 2-1 victory against SuperSport United on his debut, and since then the midfielder has gone on to represent the likes of Maritzburg United, Mpumalanga Black Aces and City.
”Competition is something that’s there in every team you play for. So, whoever I’m competing with, it’s only going to benefit the team.
”Firstly, you need to make progress with your club before thinking about the national team. So, if the team is doing well and I’m performing well too, then a call-up to the national team will follow,” he concluded.
