Platinum Stars announce Butler as new coach

Platinum Stars have confirmed the appointment of Englishman Peter Butler as the head coach of the club for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
The 50-year-old coach’s tenure at the club will commence from 1 July, after Dikwena decided against renewing Cavin Johnson’s contract with the club.
Bulter says he is impressed by the professionalism the club has shown and insists he is relishing the chance to hit the ground running at Dikwena.
“I am excited to join Platinum Stars. This is a very well-run club administratively. I have been to the club’s campus before,” Butler said.
“I have always been impressed with the club’s facilities and hospitality. What excites me here, is the opportunity to build a balanced team with youth and experience.”
Meanwhile, Stars chairman Cliff Ramoroa admits that Butler was their preferred choice to succeed Johnson after interviewing numerous candidates for the position.
“We went through a number of coaches throughout the country and other nations and we found Butler a worthy candidate,” Ramoroa said.
“We interviewed a number of coaches and eventually, Peter Butler came out tops out of the list of the coaches that we had.
“His appointment shows our intentions to go to another level. On behalf of the board, management, staff, players and supporters, we would like to pledge our unwavering support to the coach.”
Platinum Stars finished the 2016-17 campaign in ninth place in the Absa Premiership standings with 37 points, 23 points behind champions Bidvest Wits under former coach Cavin Johnson.
