Platinum Stars have confirmed that the club have parted ways with head coach Cavin Johnson, after his failure to lead Dikwena to a top-eight spot on the Absa Premiership table.

Dikwena opted against renewing the 58-year-old coach’s contract after guiding them to a ninth place finish in the Absa Premiership table with 37 points, one point short of a top-eight berth.

Stars chairman Cliff Ramoroa confirmed the club’s decision not to renew his contract due to their dismal form at the end of June.

“We can confirm that the club is not going to renew the contract of Mr Cavin Johnson for the 2017-18 season,” Ramoroa told the Platinum Stars website.

“We would like to express sincere gratitude for all the hard work and efforts by Mr Johnson and the technical team. Mr Johnson did his best in terms of ensuring that the clubs reaches the levels that it is in.

“We would like to move to another level. We believe that a change of this nature would really bring someone who will take the club to another level. This is a contract not being renewed. It’s not a firing or anything,” he added.

Ramoroa revealed that there would further be changes to the technical team and playing personnel, while also adding that the club are in the process of looking for Johnson’s successor.

“We will make announcements on further changes in both the technical team and playing personnel.”

“We will be able to make an announcement concerning the new coach before the beginning of next season,” he concluded.
