Van Heerden joined the Mayfair outfit in January last year, but failed to establish himself as a regular with coach Milutin Sredojevic opting for Innocent Maela, Thabo Matlaba and Phetso Maphanga ahead of him.

Following the arrival of nine new players at the Soweto giants, which include another left-back in Paseka Mako, the former AmaZulu defender has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Pirates took to their official website to release a short statement publicising details of Van Heerden’s departure from the club.

‘Orlando Pirates would like to confirm that following a meeting with Marc van Heerden’s representatives last week, both parties have agreed to mutually terminate the 30-year-old’s current contract,’ the club’s official website said.

‘Orlando Pirates Football Club would like to wish Marc the best of luck in his future endeavours,’ the statement read.
