Mphahlele: We need to win one cup

Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has urged his side to set their sights on winning the 2017-18 edition of the MTN8 competition.
The 28-year-old had an impressive debut season with Amakhosi, despite the Soweto giants finishing the 2016-17 campaign without any silverware.
Mphahlele managed to rack up a total of 32 appearances, while scoring two goals and assisted a further four in all competitions while donning the Amakhosi jersey.
The Chiefs defender has urged his side to clinch the MTN8 trophy, which he believes will set them up nicely for the season ahead.
“You know when you win something, you start believing you can win and that’s what we need at the moment. We need to win one cup, so the MTN8 will be very important,” Mphahlele told KickOff.com.
“We have to concentrate on that and try to bring it home. We owe it to the fans. They have been there for us and sometimes we even feel ashamed. We owe it to the chairman [Kaizer Motaung]. We owe them a trophy or two.”
Mphahlele insists that Chiefs have to improve on their defensive work rate after conceding 28 goals during the 2016-17 Absa Premiership season.
“Defensively, Amakhosi need to improve after losing concentration in key moments of the game. It’s what let them down in matches against the likes of Baroka, Golden Arrows and Cape Town City,” he added.
“That’s what we want to work on. I saw the interview of the chairman, saying the defence [can be better]. We made some crucial mistakes, but we have learnt.
“Next season we will do better. We will take games seriously and we will concentrate more. I think we owe it to everyone to do better.”
