• Ertugral quits as Ajax CT boss

    Muhsin Ertugra

Ajax Cape Town have confirmed that coach Muhsin Ertugral has resigned from his position at the club.

The Turkish coach was brought in last season with the mandate of saving the Urban Warriors from relegation. However, after the Tendai Ndoro saga, Ajax were subsequently relegated to the National First Division.

The Cape Town-based club were expected to jump straight back up to the Absa Premiership, but a 2-1 loss against Witbank Spurs on Sunday left Ajax with just four wins from 11 matches and languishing mid-table, which was the final straw for Ertugral, who handed in his resignation after the game.

‘We wish Muhsin well in all his future endeavours and thank him for his efforts over the past 11 months. His commitment to the club is unquestionable especially when he offered to stay on at the club and help the team in their quest be promoted back to the Absa Premiership,’ said Ajax chief executive Ari Efstathiou.

The club added that they ‘will make an announcement on a new coach in due course’.

The former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs coach then took to Twitter to explain his decision.

Ajax will now look to appoint a new coach who will have the skills to help them gain promotion back to the Absa Premiership at the first time of asking.
